This isn’t the kind of thing they like at the poetry slam.
Everybody else gets all mad and excited and filled with exploding ecstacy…umm…
Stuff all over the…umm…thingy.
But me, well…umm.
I just… I just, I mean, I just…Clam up!…
I just don’t have that raging bad, mother magnum, meanie, beanie weanie, whirlpool wealth of wizardry wordiness that all the people over there do.
Ohh, I don’t know what, happens to me when I get up here…
I just seem to dig my toe in the floor and twist it around…
Hi…
I can never remember what I had to say…uhh…
Except that it seems there are so many people who get up here acting like they have something to say,
And it just ends up being the same drivel,
The same hatred,
The same, easy, pin the blame tail of your whining, braying, complaining,
Kicking like pouting, tantrum tortured children who just can’t get over what little Georgie or
Billy did to you on their presidential playgrounds.
Or how the whities, or the afros, or the hispanics, or the asians or even those other Americans from the Scantron sheets…hurt your little feelings.
You can get your panties in a wad, stick it to the man and slam to the ground the heads of all the pundits in power for stealing or bombing or falling off their politically ivory platform.
I don’t even want the decision of how to get rid of terrorism,
Or end discrimination,
Or lead a nation,
Or the world, spinning out of control,
Fueled by every token of hate we keep putting in with our words and actions.
If you want to be a real revolutionary, go love and serve the people of Afghanistan,
Or swallow your pride and forgive the people who’ve urinated all over you with their
hateful prejudice,
Or do something simple and give your spot to the jerk who just cut you off on the highway.
He’s got an insecurity complex anyway and could use some acceptance,
Like the guy or girl everyone makes fun of,
Or me,
Or you.
I’m just tryin’ to be your open-handed friend with a vulnerable, open heart…
And I guess that’s why I just clam up…umm…
Or dig my toe in the ground…
‘Cause I don’t want to say something that’s not loving you.
