Many Sighs

Album:
Birth of the Spoken Groove / When Legos Learn to Love

For my sighs are many,
And my heart is faint.
For my tears are heavy,
And my heart is faint.

Her battered body lies limp across my upturned arms
Her eyes, staring into mine, unblinking.
I’m sitting with the dust of the street covering my head,
My back against a wall, unflinching.
I cry for my sister’s pain and suffering.
I plead for her healing, for pity.
I’m pleading for forgiveness to wash her twisted heart,
To calm my weary soul,
To make her whole and alive, mend every dream that’s been torn apart.
But no one comforts me…or her.

For my sighs are many,
And my heart is faint.
For my tears are heavy,
And my heart is faint.

She was the virgin princess of every eye in my father’s house,
Her smile looking into mine, always dancing.
She was promised to a kind, strong husband of love’s tender bloom,
His heart ravished by her gaze, unchanging.
But she trusted in her own fame and beauty,
Gave her body for less than nothing.
She sold her children for seductive desires,
Built their funeral pyres,
Hired fantasy entertainers to arouse and ignite her craving,
Bound and slaving for their touch,
Needing it often and hollow and used up, broken

For my sighs are many,
And my heart is faint.
For my tears are heavy,
And my heart is faint.

Oh, remember the vow and the innocent kiss
Your lips made on the dawn of your wedding
With your body still clean and your children unborn
To the hope of your husband’s drawing.
I will carry your burdens in my heart of youth,
Wear the scorn of your enemies, my nation,
Submit to the silence of a hopeful heart,
The quiet of a waiting soul,
See you whole and alive, dancing in the dreams that were torn apart,
There is one who can comfort me… and her.

For my sighs are many,
And my heart is faint.
For my tears are heavy,
And my heart is faint.

He will not reject you forever.
Though He causes grief, He will show compassion and mercy.
Return to the Lord.
